Children of Men / Pink Floyd

The new movie starring Clive Owens, called Children of Men, apparently pays homage to Pink Floyd's Animals album cover, floating pig and all. This is the futuristic movie where everyone's infertile and the whole human race is getting older. Definitely a movie I want to see.

Brain Damage has a film review (with images from the movie with the Pink Floyd allusions).

Windows Vista Coming Soon

There's a lot of people anxiously awaiting the release of Windows Vista (and the hardware upgrades it will surely require!). Found this blog of Vista's developers at Microsoft, a little late perhaps. Their blog looks nice.

Blogger vs. Yahoo 360

So here are a few things I like about Blogger better than Yahoo 360. The interface is less cluttered and more concise, it doesn't use unnecessary real estate on the screen. It seems to lead 360 on features. The permissions in 360 seem to complicated and sometimes inconsistent (sometimes things that are supposed to be viewable by "friends" don't show up). Blogger is free of banner adds and other Yahoo plugs. I can configure which elements I want to appear on my page, whereas 360's page elements are permanent. Templates in Blogger can vary greatly in appearance (through CSS stylesheets) whereas in 360 they just change colors and background images.

They both have their advantages. 360 obviously is more community-oriented (with it letting "friends" keep in tune what the others are doing) but I like Blogger's interface much better.

Title Description

The title of this blog (and my username) are excerpts from one of Pink Floyd's great songs, Shine on You Crazy Diamond. It's a lengthy song with various "parts" of different styles, with synthesizer, guitar riff, and saxophone instrumentals, bookended with some imaginative lyrics about their influential former band member Syd Barrett. The album this song was released on, Wish You Were Here, is one of my favorites by Pink Floyd.

Changes

I decided to scrap my old homepage and go with something a little easier to update... Now that Blogger.com can publish directly to my website with FTP, I decided to use it to publish my website updates.

I also have a blog at Yahoo.
